Low 40 temperatures and a small drizzle of rain, was it going to be that kind of night where we could see an unexpected winner? Well, indeed it did happen as #1 Boyle County was taken down by Covington Catholic and their unstoppable ground game.
#1 Boyle County goes down
Coming into the game the Colonels had a chip on their shoulder as big underdogs and wanted revenge from the team they were blown out by in last year’s 4A state championship. In the first half, Boyle’s go to running back Demauriah Brown went down with an ankle injury which forced the future Kentucky Wildcat Montavin Quisenberry to be the featured back. Both backs are two way players but with one man down and the other limited on defense, it gave the Covington Catholic junior quarterback Cash Harney an opportunity to show his ability to run. With only completing 3/4 passes for 102 yds and a touchdown, Harney had a monster game on the ground as he ran 28 times for 234 yards along with two touchdowns. The Rebels did not have an answer for the running attack all night. The Rebels switched up their offense and put Quisenberry as their QB in the wildcat formation. Quisenberry led his team down to the wire with under 3:00 left in the fourth and down by three points. Montavin Quisenberry would run the ball to the right and down to the Colonels 1 yard line in apparent fumble for a touchback. This play sparked controversy as it appeared to several players and fans on the Boyle side that Quisenberry’s knee was down before the ball came out of his hands. But with the play ending near the Covington Catholic sideline and near their fan base it put pressure on the referees to make a crucial decision. After discussion the officials declared it was a fumble for a touchback. Catholic would take the ball back and run the clock out resulting in a 31-28 victory over the Rebels.
Warren County Schools dominate their regional championships
The Bowling Green Purples and the South Warren Spartans dominated their opponent. Deuce Bailey threw 6 touchdowns over the Atherton Ravens and led his team to victory 44-20. On the other side of town, Bryce Button threw for three scores and went on to defeat the North Bullitt Eagles 42-7. The two heavy weights will face off in a rematch this Friday at South Warren which will determine who will be competing for the state title on December 7th.

Christian Academy-Louisville wins the rematch versus inner city rival Central
The game of the week took place at Christian Academy-Louisville Friday night as the Centurions were looking to grab the regional championship from the team that dismantled them earlier this year 28-48. In the first half the Centurions got off to a rocket start as quarterback Connor Hodge threw for two touchdowns and rushed a score. Central would not score until the third when Hodge fumbled the ball and the Yellow Jackets would take it back for touchdown. The score would be 21-6 at the end of the third and would be their only touchdown of the game for Central. Connor Hodge would put the game out of reach in the last quarter as he found his way to the end zone for the second time on the ground which resulted in a 28-6 blowout win. Hodge’s monster performance ended with 209 pass yards, 159 yards rushing, and a total of 4 touchdowns. The Centurions will face off against Lexington Catholic in the 3A class state semifinals this Friday.
Trinity comes back to win 35-21
Coming off back to back shutout victories in the state tournament, Louisville Trinity was looking to punch their ticket to the semifinals. But they had to face a Ballard team that has caught fire this posting season and coming off an upset win against Male High School. In the first quarter, Trinity’s sophomore Phenom quarterback Zane Johnson throws an interception to Connor Johnson of Ballard high school. On the very next play, Bruins quarterback Larry Irvin finds his wideout Maurice Stephens across the middle for Ballard’s first score of the game. In the beginning of the second, the Shamrocks finally strike with a rushing touchdown from Jamaurion Berry and brought both teams within even. Berry would find his way to the end zone again and Trinity would kick a field goal before the half. Larry Irvin would connect Stephens for two more scores going in the third quarter as duo gave the Bruins a 21-17 advantage. In the second half the Shamrocks defense stepped up and caused a pick six by Nicolas Lococo. Trinity would hold the Bruins scoreless for the rest of the game and the Shamrocks would go to score one with another rushing touchdown by Jamaurion Berry. Shamrocks win 35-21 and will setup for another rematch against Frederick Douglass.
