The northern tip of Kentucky is becoming the center of the state’s high school football power. As the 2024 KHSAA football playoff is coming to a conclusion, five northern Kentucky teams could potentially win state titles.

Ryle Raiders

Ranked top 3 in class 6A in points per game, Ryle finished their regular season with an 8-2 record. One of the losses was to St. Xavier who they dismantled in round two of the playoffs 38-17. The Raiders will go against Great Crossing as heavy favorites in the semifinals as they beat the Warhawks 36-6 earlier this year and had put up 391 yards of total offense.

Cooper Jaguars & Highlands Bluebirds

Last year’s 5A state runners up finished the season 10-0. The Cooper Jaguars will matchup with rival Highlands tomorrow night in the semifinals. Two schools that are only twenty minutes apart met earlier this year and Cooper got the best of the Bluebirds 24-21. Both schools are ranked one and two in the state in points per game in class 5A.

Covington Catholic

Coming off an upset victory against Boyle County, Catholic is hoping to continue that momentum this Friday against Franklin County. Franklin County’s defense is ranked 2nd in class 4A allowing 10.2 points per game. But they will have their hands full with Colonels dual threat quarterback Cash Harney and running back Dylan Gaiser who both have over 1,300 yards rushing this season.

Beechwood

Beechwood finished their regular season 9-1 for the second consecutive year. The Tigers are ranked second in class 2A for points per game and are the third rank defense as well. They will have a tough task ahead as they’ll be facing Saxton Howard and the Lexington Christian Eagles in hopes to make it back to state.
